THINGS TO DO
While there is much to do in Cleone itself, you'll discover even more awaiting you in the town of Fort Bragg or the village of Mendocino. Take in the beauty of one of our many pristine beaches, hike in one of our numerous State Parks, take a casual stroll at the Botanical Gardens, or even take an afternoon ride on the Skunk Train. Whatever you choose to do, there is surely something for everyone to explore in our area.

MacKerricher State Park
MacKerricher State Park’s diversity, moderate climate and wild beauty make this special place on the Mendocino Coast a gem among California’s state parks. Located just three mile north of Fort Bragg in the community of Cleone and a short walk from the Cleone Gardens Inn.
Lake Cleone
Lake Cleone is located inside MacKerricher State Park. The Lake Cleone picnic area has tables, fire pits with grills, running water and great views. A 1.3-mile trail circles the trout-stocked lake.
Inglenook Fen-Ten Mile Dune Preserve
Alongside an isolated stretch of beach, the Inglenook Fen-Ten Mile Dune Preserve, an unusual sand dune complex, contains several terrestrial, wetland, and freshwater echo-systems. Walk on the beach, rather than the dunes, to avoid harming a number of sensitive, threatened, or endangered dune species. Inglenook Fen-Ten Mile Dune Preserve is located on the north end of MacKerricher State Park and is also accessible from the south end of the Ten Mile bridge.
Laguna Point Boardwalk
During gray whale migration seasons, there are organized whale watches on Laguna Point. The views from the boardwalk and observation decks are spectacular and the wildlife along the boardwalk is abundant. Laguna Point Boardwalk is wheelchair accessible and is located in MacKerricher State Park.
The Haul Road
This picturesque coastal trail or haul road as it is historically called, once carried steam engine trains to the former Union Lumber Company in Fort Bragg. The recent restoration of the Pudding Creek Trestle in 2007 has reconnected the community of Cleone to the city of Fort Bragg. The haul road is part of MacKerricher State Park and is a short walk from our Inn.

Ricochet Ridge Ranch
Ricochet Ridge Ranch offers horseback riding on the beach and in the redwoods. Sunset rides on the beach and private guided trail rides. English or Western, total beginners to very advanced riders are all welcome. Located in the heart of Cleone and a short walk from our Inn.
Down Town Fort Bragg
The Fort Bragg of today is a rustic seaside town with a population barely over seven thousand people. It has a laid back atmosphere with the Old World charm that has been preserved in some of its historical buildings. There are antique shops, galleries, boutiques, restaurants and more.
Noyo Harbor
The Noyo Harbor fishing village is tucked into the forested hills at the south end of Fort Bragg. Noyo Harbor is a great starting point for a fun day out on the ocean. Whether it's on a fishing or whale watching charter, paddling you own kayak, or eating at one of the harbor's popular restaurants, you will enjoy your time spent there.
Pt. Cabrillo Lighthouse Station
Take a step back in history with the original Fresnel lens still in operation today. Construction of the Light Station began in 1908, and the lens was illuminated for the first time on June 10, 1909.
Skunk Train
The view from the restored rail cars is pretty much unchanged. With occasional whistles as it chugs through tunnels, over bridges and past open meadows, the train follows the coastal “Redwood Route” as it has since 1885.
Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens
A rare jewel: The only public garden in the continental United States fronting directly on the ocean, Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens offers everything from colorful displays to thunderous waves. Well-mannered dogs on leashes are always welcome and enjoy free admission.
Guest House Museum
Built in 1892 the Guest House Museum highlights the history of Fort Bragg and the surrounding areas with a focus on the timber, fishing and the motion picture industry.
